Live the sweet life!
It all began when head baker and owner Rachel Murad decided to bake as a way to create edible works of art. She was always a very creative person dabbling in all the arts specifically dance, visual art, and music. During her time at Queen’s university studying music, she used to bake to take a break from the stresses of school using her friends as guinea pigs for her new delicious creations.
Rachel learned all the basic baking techniques from her mother, but soon went on to take classes to fine tune her skills. Having a passion for cake decoration, she started with the Wilton technique that gave her a basic understanding of piping and fondant decoration.
After graduating from Queen’s, Rachel knew she wanted to open her own brand of confections. She decided to go to Bonnie Gordon College of Confectionary Arts where she learned to master her skills of cake decoration and the pastry arts. She graduated with honours earning herself a confectionary arts diploma.
Soon after graduating, Rachel opened Rachie Cakes Sweets & Treats where she gained experience creating delicious dairy-free confections for the kosher Jewish community. The company grew from retail to custom orders catering to over hundreds of people.
Eventually, Rachel wanted to share her gift of the pastry arts and dove into teaching baking classes for adults and kids of all ages.
